My autumn juices…

I had a Nigella moment today and thought I should share it with you.

I am enjoying autumn here. The weather has been special the last few days, cold but a sky and a light that take my breath away every time I step out of my house.

Walking round La Rochelle market where everything is seasonal I bought a slice of pumpkin. With the weather turning cold I had in mind to make a soup at some stage during the week.

Here is how it went:

Load a thick layer of mascara on your lashes….(men don’t be afraid) .Put your best clothes on you are half way there…Also remember you will have to smile throughout!

1- Get hold of a slice of pumpkin and roughly chop it. Notice my french polish?

2- Peel 1 Yam and chop it.

3-Onion: slice 1

4-Peel 3 cloves of garlic and slice.

Get hold of a pan, pour a bit of olive oil fry the onions and garlic, add some cumin seeds and coriander seeds and your chopped vegetables. Add some water about 1.5 litres.

Bring to boil and let the vegetables cook gently.

Once they are cooked I use a blender to liquefy the soup, add half a tin of coconut milk and fresh coriander to garnish.

Eat it….that’s my taste of autumn!

  2. I haven’t worn mascara for years - if I must, I must I suppose. I always follow recipes slavishly.

  3. lovely French Manicure there Sylvie … for a moment there I thought you were Nigella … marvellous :-)

  4. I like the bicycle pic. Do you add bits of the bike to the soup? I would imagine that a length of chain, or perhaps some brake cable would go well. Serve with a “julienne des pneus” and a chilled Chablis.

  5. Baby: your french is improving de jour en jour…
